After finding a recipe for some potato bread on a brilliant gardening site – the Horticultural Channel. I couldn’t wait to try it. In fact it’s the start of my blog posts about potatoes. I’m aiming for at least one a week. I’ll name them Potato Post Wednesdays. You will learn as you follow my blog that I love potatoes. Grow them, cook them, eat them, learn about them. They are a brilliant plant and there are so many varieties that you could never, ever be bored. It surprised me that some of the younger guys down the allotment didn’t realise that different potato varieties can taste different. So we’ll be planting over six different types to show them the way a potato can have a wide variety of distinguishable tastes and textures.
The bread was quick and easy to make, here it is before it went in the oven.
So what did I think to the Potato Bread? Well, it’s only been out of the oven for less than an hour and it’s half gone (Made sandwiches for tomorrow and had two slices tonight because we couldn’t resist!). I made slight changes due to having the wrong flour, I used half wholemeal flour and half strong white bread flour and added in a big handful of sunflower seeds. The cumin seeds are a wonderful touch and give the crust a great flavour. Next time I might use fennel seeds.
So if you like the look of it. Give it a go. It has a wonderful crunchy crust (might try baking it for less time!), it’s moist and, full of flavour. I’ll be trying some to make some Potato focaccia as well this week. If you want to join in on the Potato Post Wednesdays then please get in touch.
